It is a new year 2011

Last year was very challenging, let me recap:
 I gained all the weight back.
 I finally finished my PhD, I had been playing a cat and mouse game with it for years.

I awoke to feelings of frustration. I was not going to start the year off like this so:
I went for a ride to a park that was closed and ended up miles away at John Lloyd's State Park in Ft. Lauderdale. The ranger was so nice he let me in to look around, I took a looong walk until I could not endure the stinging sand anymore and sat down for a while. The wind was blowing and it was beautiful, it reminded me on being by the sea in Barbados. I sat there for at least half an hour and by the time I left all was forgotten. I was cured.

Hi I Am Back

I have been away for a long time. I have gained 8 pounds and almost finished with school, it is back to the watching what you eat, and exercise mode. Hopefully I can get some sewing done, too.

Anniversary Cruise

We have been married 20 years April 7, 2010 and have always wanted to go on a cruise we finally made it. A eight day western Caribbean Cruise to Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama on Carnival's Freedom was truly an experience. I took the advice of seasoned travellers from my office and went cheap on the stateroom and went on excursions at each port of call.

Excercise Log 4-11-10 to 4-17-10

I tried very hard this week to keep active and away from the food aboard Carnival's Freedom. My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary by cruising to Mexico, Costa Rico and Panama.


4-11-2010:
10 minutes on stationary bicycle.
10 minutes on tread mill.
10 minutes on cross-trainer.
20 minutes weight training.
15 minutes sauna.

4-14-2010:
30 minutes on tread mill.
10 minutes weight training

4-17-2010:
60 minutes in steam room.

Dermatomyositis/ Polymyositis Update March 2010

A little history: last year after thinking I was in remission I weaned myself off my meds and was doing excellent.  Early this year I noticed the familiar dark spots on my face and a little muscle weakness: it was back my CPKs were 3450, they should be below 250. So I am back on my meds, enbrell and imuran. I am staying happy and enjoying life. I visited my rheumatologist last week and my CPK readings are the same, the positive side to this is that they have not elevated any further.

Walked/lightly jogged 1.5 miles in 35 minutes.

Finally Something Sewn

Here it is! I have finally finished an item, a top V8581, you can see my review here. It may not look exactly like the pattern as I did not follow all the instructions, my changes are below:
1) threaded elastic into the neckline, instead of gathering and attaching the neck band
2) gathered the sleeve hem, with my coverstitch machine (first time doing this), instead of gathering and attaching the sleeve band
3) put a simple hem on the bottom of the garment, instead of gathering.
I sewed a size 24 which I think is a little big. I will try a size 20 the next time, and maybe I will follow more of the directions.
